Liverpool End Of Season Awards

ImageThe end of season awards

It’s sad really, with 1 game to go, Im already discussing the season that has just passed, with Liverpool last game meaningless, I think it’s time to review the season we just had. We might have had some lows, but we definitely had some positives to taker from the season, and hopefully, this time next year, our last game will be meaningful and that we’ll be in the mix for 4th place and beyond.

First Team

Player Of The Year
No real doubt here but Luis Suarez has to get it, with 30 goals this season, we’ve seen arguably the best player in the league. The controversial striker hit the press for the right reasons this season, until that surreal moment in the Kop goal mouth where well, lets not discuss it, we all know what happened between Luis and Ivanovic.
Runner ups: 2nd-Gerrard 3rd- Henderson

Goal Of The Season
Nearly as obvious as the first award but Luis Suarez goal v Newcastle ranks up there with one of the best the Kop has seen. With a lovely long pass from Enrique, Suarez chested the ball down, went around Krul and cooly finished.
Runner ups: 2nd-Enrique v Swansea 3rd- Johnson v West Ham

Young Player Of The Year(applies for first team only)
Although he was a January signing, Coutinho has been a revelation. With goals, assists, dribbling, and key passes but to name just a few things he’s brought to Anfield. With the player costing under 10 million it would be a real surprise for me if the 20 year old Brazilian doesn’t continue to set the league alright next year.
Runner ups: 2nd- Sterling 3rd- Wisdom

Performance Of The Season
This was one of the toughest awards to be given but Luis Suarez display v Norwich was a real treat. With Suarez bagging a hat trick for the second time against Norwich. Luis absolutely loves playing the canaries.
Runner ups: 2nd- Coutinho v Newcastle 3rd Sturridge v Chelsea

Most improved
Jordan Henderson has got some great credit this season following what can only be described as a poor first season, following a big money move from Sunderland. Although not many backed him, I always did. His performances for the England U21s have always been superb and one of the main reasons is because he is playing centre mid. Last season Dalglish played Jordan on the right of a 4-4-2. This season has been a lot different playing that central role, most of the time
Runner ups: 2nd- Downing 3rd- Enrique

Weak Link
Although I feel all 3 of the players that were in the famous envelopes have gone. There are some weak links left. With Carroll, Adam, and Cole gone, it has to be said Skrtel performances this season have been below par. With the Slovakian usually so commanding it’s strange to the see the defender left out and may even be sold in the summer
Runner ups: 2nd-Cole(half a season) 3rd- Allen

Best Game
There’s been a few crackers this year but all in all the 2 man city matches stick out in the memory with the game at the Ethiad edging it. Sturridge and Gerrard scored before a Reina mistake led to a very tidy finish from Aguero. Gerrard’s 40 yard screamer rounded off a great game for the neutrals.
Runners up: 2nd- Man City 2-2(h) 3rd West Ham (a)

Worst Game
Liverpool v West Ham. Meh. It was 0-0
Runners up: 2nd- West Brom(a) 3rd West Brom(h)

Best Barnet
Suso sure does have some elegant hair. The mop on top of his head has got the young spaniard some credit . Thanks for @Kev92Kelly for giving me the idea of the awards ‘best barnet’ and ‘worst barnet’. I’m not, going to drag these awards out. So, moving swiftly on.
Runner ups: 2nd- Raheem Sterling 3rd- Borini

Worst Barnet
Although we haven’t seen much of the English full back, his hair this season has been atrocious. Known as ‘The Do’ by most of his team mates it’s fair to say that Kelly gets a bit of abuse for his dodgy hair style
Runner ups: 2nd- Coates 3rd- Enrique(bald)

Most Bizarre Moment
Luis Suarez biting Ivanovic sure was interesting and bizarre. Although the topic does win the award, I don’t think here and now is the time or the place to talk about Luis Suarez and the 10 match ban he received for his bite.
Runner ups: 2nd- Shelvey roaring at Ferguson 3rd-Suarez dive v Everton(celebration)

Pass Of The Season
There’s been some great passes this season with Gerrard’s pass v Sunderland sticking out in the memory although Jose Enrique’s pass v Newcastle was top of the range I think that Gerrard’s pass just edges. He picked up the ball in his own half, in the right back position plays a long cutting ball between the centre halves for Suarez to easily pick up and cooly finish.
Runner ups: 2nd- Enrique v Newcastle 3rd- Coutinho v Newcastle

Best Signing
Our 2 best signings came in January, with Sturridge and Coutinho adding real fire power to the attack. With Coutinho coming in at just under 10 million and Sturridge at 12 million, it’s clear that for the first time, in a long time, we have actually got value for money when it comes to transfers. So for this award I’m not giving any runner ups I’m giving the award to Sturridge and Coutinho.

Best Opposition Player Performance
Last season Liverpool faced some stern opposition goal keepers this season we looked to have put that to bed until the young Reading keeper McCarthy kept a clean sheet against us putting in a fine performance and denying Liverpool the 3 points. Through out the match Liverpool dominated, but we failed to score thanks to McCarthy.
Runner ups: 2nd- Benteke 3rd- Cazorla

Under 21 Section

Player Of The Year
Although he’s played with the first team on a few occasions this season, his performance for the U21 side have been phenomenal. Suso has been a little magician in midfield. From his impressive displays for his national side at U19 level last summer, it’s easy to see exactly why he’s gotten call ups for his nations U21 side and the Liverpool 1st team. Next year he may need a loan but in my opinion he’s of Premier League standard and I would not loan him to a championship club.
Runner ups: 2nd- Coady 3rd- Teixeira

Goal Of The Season
Not many will remember this one, but back before Christmas Dani Pacheco, who since has been loaned out, scored an absolute stunning goal v Man City. Some say it was a cross, others say it was shot but either way the ball found its way in to the top corner. The shot was hit from nearly the touch line. It was incredible
Runner ups: 2nd- Adorjan v Arsenal  3rd Shelvey v Man United

Most Improved
This award is one of the most obvious awards for me. This season Teixeira has been a revelation, his close dribbling style was even compared to Luis Suarez by 21’s manager Ingelthorpe. Joao will hopefully get a taste of first team football next season. After signing the youngster from Lisbon, the midfielder was made to sit out for some time through injury. We’re only now seeing Joao full talents this season
Runner ups: 2nd- Pelosi 3rd- Ngoo(on his loan)

Best Barnet
I’m going for a similar choice of the winner of the best barnet for the first team. Teixeira hair is quite simply brilliant. I’m not going to go on about the topic for to long, but thought it was wordy of an award.
Runner ups: 2nd- Ibe 3rd- Nacho

Worst Barnet
Yesil has by the far the worst cut going in the 21s. Since arriving from Germany, Yesil has yet to show the Liverpool fans how good he really is after picking up a serious injury his chances have been slim.
No runner ups

Best Opposition Player Performance
Never have I watched a match at under age level, and been so impressed with an opposition player. Obika this season though for Spurs was a joy to watch, his all round play upfront was majestic, and his performance was topped of by scoring the only goal in the match
Runner ups: 2nd- Januzi 3rd- Ake

U18’s Section

Player Of The Year
This award was quite tough to hand out, with so many players switching between 18s and 21s, so ill be sticking with the base 11 although a few of the 18s ended the season with the 21s, Ibe, Dunn, Jones etc.
For me, Ibe is the clear winner. He’s been absolutely superb this season, and has played the last few games with the U21’s and even got himself on the subs bench for the first team.
Runner ups: 2nd- McCaughlin 3rd- Jones

Goal Of The Season
If you haven’t already seen Jerome Sinclair wonder solo goal, then do. It was a fabulous bit of skill by the 16 year old who this season made his first team debut v West Brom in the league cup.
Runner Ups: 2nd- Baio v Fulham(a) 3rd- Trickett-Smith v Chelsea(a)

Most Improved
For me, Alex O Hanlon has been incredible this season, his sheer determination when going for the ball, not mention his pace all add up to making the young irish lad a huge prospect for the future. The left winger does
resemble Garreth Bale, so keep an eye out in the years to come.
Runner ups: 2nd- Fulton 3rd- Jones

Best Barnet
Again, short and sweet, but this award goes to Jerome Sinclair for his ‘Mohawk’
Runner ups: 2nd- Peterson 3rd- Maguire

Worst Barnet
This award has to go to Sheyi Ojo for the ‘mini afro’
Runners up: 2nd- Baio. No 3rd place

Best Opposition Player Performance
Ake for Chelsea has played at 1st team level, U21 level and U18 level during Fa Youth matches, so it’s no surprise that when Liverpool faced Chelsea in the semi final of the Fa Youth Cup, Ake absolutely bossed the game.
Only 1 runner up: Baker(Chelsea)

  1. Joe says:

Pachecho was u21 player of the season team fell apart after he left. Wisdom third best young player he’s rubbish shelvey has had a far bigger impact even tho I don’t rate him

  2. Joe says:

You know very little about the u18’s McLaughlin not mccaughlin and he plays for the u21 anyway not u18 where he has played zero games. Alex o Hanlon isn’t most improved because he never played last season he’s a first year that has mainly played for u16’s. utter utter tripe.
